Engenia Web-Based Spray Tool

BASF Corporation has developed a web-based tool to help producers determine the time of day that is ok to apply dicamba products such as Engenia. Click here to access the Engenia Spray Tool.

Once on the site, producers can enter their location by city and state and retrieve weather data for that time of day, or by clicking the hourly button, access forecasts for a 36-hour future window for that location. These data can be used to determine the best time of day to spray dicamba herbicides to avoid rain, wind speeds in excess of those allowed for spraying, wind direction that will contribute to off-site drift toward sensitive areas, and conditions that will likely result in a temperature inversion. In fact, the tool even outputs the potential for inversion; e.g., no, medium, and high inversion potential.

There is also a statement that “spraying not permitted from two hours before sunset until one hour after sunrise”, and provides the time of sunrise and sunset at the input location on the day of access.

Another output feature of the tool is a “condition index”, with a green circle for ok to spray, red for poor spraying conditions, and yellow for check before you spray. Clicking on the “?” icon will access the parameters included in the conditions index.

Caution: The tool is for planning purposes only. It does not replace checking the weather in a field just prior to an actual spray application.

Producers who plan on spraying dicamba-containing herbicides at any time during the year are encouraged to access and bookmark this site. It can be a powerful tool to use to ensure that spraying restrictions/conditions are met to prevent the offsite effects that often result from use of these herbicides.
